Hearing Voices Network

A Hearing Voices Network is a collection of Hearing Voices Groups and affiliated members (such as service providers, consumers, carers and friends) working toward promoting recovery, acceptance & education.  Across the world groups of voice hearers meet and talk, sharing viewpoints and strategies to support each other telling their stories and exploring ways to work with rather than against their voices in order to reclaim control and rebuild their lives.

The Hearing Voices Network in Australia (HVNA) was established by Richmond Fellowship WA in conjunction with many agencies across Australia including Prahran Mission to allow people who hear voices to connect and share their experiences and their recovery journey.

You can read more about the network by downloading the Hearing Voices Information Booklet.

Disability and mental health employment key agenda item for Parliamentary Secretary

UnitingCare National Director Lin Hatfield Dodds and Chair of the UnitingCare Australia Employment Services Working Group, and Prahran Mission CEO, Quinn Pawson met with the Parliamentary Secretary forDisabilities and Children's Services, Bill Shorten in Sydney on Thursday 27 March to discuss the Federal Government’s development of a national mental health and employment strategy.

Mr Shorten has a clear understanding of the issues facing people living with mental illness and disabilities in finding and maintaining employment. He indicated that he was aware of the difficulties in the existing government assessment processes and programs and the system blockers preventing agencies providing employment services from helping their clients into work.

He expressed a strong desire to visit UnitingCare and Mission agencies providing disability employment services and other disability services, particularly DEN and mental health services.

The National Office and the Employment Services Group will be working over coming months to put together a submission to the Government as it develops its National Mental Health and Disability Employment Strategy as well as a site visit program for Mr Shorten.
