Foreword, by Professor Marius Romme & Sandra Escher:

This book is a great achievement in developing a change in attitude and approach towards hearing voices.  This book is for voice hearers and the people they select to support them.  It will enable people who have difficulties to cope with their voices and to discover different sides to their voices.  Following a systematic approach it will unfold their relation with the voices and by doing so will stimulate them to acquire more effective ways of coping.  Most important in this process, and well stimulated in this workbook, is to take ownership of the experience from writing one's own life history in relation to one's voices.

Living with Voices: 50 Stories of Recovery

Prof. Marius Romme, Dr Sandra Escher, Jacqui Dillon, Dr Dirk Corstens & Prof. Mervyn Morris

$50

(plus postage)

Marius Romme and Sandra Escher's new analysis of the hearing voices experience outside of the illness model has resulted in accepting and making sense of voices.

This study of 50 stories forms the evidence for this successful new approach to working with voice hearers.

"Marius Romme and Sandra Escher have revolutionised our understanding of voice hearing, and their work has led to a radical new way of helping people who have had this type of experience.  In this timely, accessible and important book, they bring together the lessons they have learnt over more than two decades, and provide an opportunity for 50 voice hearers from across the world to tell

us their stories.

This is essential reading for mental health workers of all professions, which challenges conventional thinking, empowers mental health service users, and looks forward to a more humane

approach to psychiatric care."

- Richard Bentall, Professor of Clinical Psychology, Bangor University, Wales.

The Maastricht Interview

A copy of the interview template

About the Maastricht Interview

By Dr Dirk Corstens, The Netherlands

A great resource developed by Prof. Marius Romme and Sandra Escher which can be used to help voice hearers profile and better understand their voice hearing experience. Ideal for use in one-on-one work, and is usually completed over several sessions (3 - 10).  The outcomes of the interview belong to the voice hearer, not the worker.  People often

find a new insight into their voices after completing the interview.

Info pack for clinicians and managers. Voices Vic has prepared this information pack for anyone considering starting a group in their organisation, but who first wishes to understand the evidence base for the Hearing Voices approach, read a review of risks and understand the financial requirements for starting a group. We acknowledge Rebecca Ponchard and Dr Neil Thomas for their assistance in developing this pack.
