Voices Vic was established in July 2009 to build a network of Hearing Voices Groups across Victoria.   The sections below outline our major roles.  Click here for more information about the history and ideas behind Hearing Voices Groups.

 

 We Help Hearing Voices Groups Get Started

We can visit your organisation to speak about the Hearing Voices approach, how groups work, and how to get one started at your organisation. We provide formal training for group facilitators.

 

We work with mental health services (community and clinical), consumer and carer groups, multicultural and community organisations, and individual voice hearers. Contact us to find out more.

 

 

We Support Hearing Voices Groups Learn, Connect & Grow

We are here to offer support, advice and information, as well as create opportunities for sharing ideas across the network, including:

• Voices Vic advice line: 9692 9500 (Mon to Thu, 9am to 5pm)
• Site visits & in-person support
• Newsletters, reference books, DVDs
• Facilitator training, workshops & forums
• Mentoring & leadership development for voice hearer facilitators
• Website—including info sheets, resources, news, links and opportunities to share ideas

 

Community Awareness, Education & Advocacy

Voices Vic will seek to address the following areas through awareness, education and advocacy:

• Increase awareness and skills in the Hearing Voices Approach
• Raise awareness of the unacceptable levels of distress, health and socioeconomic disadvantage faced by many voice hearers - and lobby for change
• Address the need for ongoing funding of Hearing Voices work across Victoria

We will actively engage across all community, government and mental health arenas.

 

 

Hearing Voices Research

Voices Vic will be conducting a research project to further build the evidence base for the Hearing Voices approach. We ask all Hearing Voices Groups to participate in this important work.

Voices Vic has received grants for the current financial year from charitable trusts and foundations. We are now seeking funding for our second and subsequent years. We believe our work will substantially improve the lives of thousands of Victorians living in distress.
